THE IMPACT OF TAE KWON DO ON MY LIFE:

Tae Kwon Do is a big family tradition that started with my grandfather and was then transmitted to the next generations. It is an art that marks the values and discipline practiced at home and in our lives. My Tae Kwon Do career started when I was five years old and my biggest motivation was to watch my uncles and cousins train and fight. They were my superheroes and I just wanted to be like they were.

The martial arts can dramatically influence our lives. Let me describe the most important benefits I have acquired by practicing Tae Kwon Do as a way of life:

  • Discipline and dedication in sports, medicine, and my life in general.
  • To remain highly motivated knowing that every effort in life is worthy.
  • Showing courtesy and respect for the elderly, superiors, colleagues, and people in general.
  • Teamwork and loyalty.
  • Self-control over my thoughts, emotions, and actions.
  • Improvement of my self-esteem and confidence.
  • Preparation for facing and pursuing big challenges.
  • Punctuality.
  • Perseverance to continue sacrificing and fighting despite the obstacles that life may put on my path.
  • Understanding that being a student is a life-long process.
  • Integrity comes from understanding the difference between right and wrong and standing up for what is right.
  • The importance of justice and fairness that applied to my practice of medicine translates into giving the best patient-centered care.

My achievements during my life in Tae Kwon Do:

    • Ecuadorian Tae Kwon Do National Team Fighter for 7 consecutive years.
    • Junior Pan-American Champion (2015).
    • Bolivarian Games Champion (2009).
    • Ninth place in the World Tae Kwon Do Championship (2009).
    • Honored by the Azuay’s Sports Federation and Ecuadorian Olympic Committee and inducted into their Halls of Fame.
