Hello and welcome!

Thank you for taking the time to visit my electronic portfolio.

My name is Juan Jose Chango Azanza. I was born and raised in Cuenca, Ecuador. I graduated as a physician from the Catholic University of Cuenca – School of Medicine, Ecuador. I finished three years of Internal Medicine residency at the University of Connecticut (UCONN) in June 2021 and Chief Medical Residency at UCONN in June 2022. I am currently a hematology and oncology fellow at the Boston Medical Center (Boston University) program since July 2022.

My career interest is classical hematology or non-malignant hematology, particularly hemostasis, thrombosis, and immune-related cytopenias. My long-term goal is to become an academic physician with participation in clinical research, quality improvement and patient safety, health disparities, and medical education.

I served as the 2021-2022 President of the UCONN ASCO Oncology Student Interest Group (OSIG) to provide networking opportunities for students and residents and get to know the oncology field. I founded Ecuadoctors.com which is a website aimed at sharing information with future residency/fellowship applicants in the United States and medical knowledge. I am passionate about using technology in medical education including website development, social media, podcasts, videos, and more. I led the creation of the “UCONN IM Podcast” developed during my chief medical residency to increase the availability of didactic activities for the program outside of the clinical sites in a fun and collaborative manner.

My aim as a clinician and international medical graduate is to serve patients from different social and cultural backgrounds with dedication and professionalism, ensuring patient-centered care with quality and compassion. I provide bilingual services to English and Spanish-speaking patients. I am interested in health equity and disparities, especially in Spanish-speaking people in the United States.
